  • This study was commissioned by the Cooperative Research Centre for the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area and the Australian Fisheries Management Authority. The objectives were as follows: 1. Review the current data collected on the reef line fishery in Eastern Torres Strait, with special reference to what data are available, what is the quality of those data and what data should be collected to fill gaps in existing information. 2. Review current and potential future management approaches to the Eastern Torres Strait reef line fishery, taking into account the increasing involvement of Torres Strait Islanders in the line fishery. 3. Recommend research needs to support the sustainable management and development of the fishery, taking into account activities in the adjacent Great Barrier Reef line fishery.   • The Torres Strait Prawn Fishery (TSPF) handbook (2011) provides an update on the status of the fishery and recent developments. A detailed background and history of the TSPF can be obtained from the TSPF strategic assessment, previous TSPF handbooks and the Torres Strait Protected Zone Joint Authority (PZJA) annual report.
